The people of Northfield are known to be well-read. Naturally, they need something to fuel all that reading and, fortunately, they’ve got plenty of options to keep their motors running. Give Northfield a look if you’re looking for a quick getaway and you’re in search of some great local coffee shop options.
The Hideaway Coffeehouse and Wine Bar
Where to start? This idyllic coffeehouse on Division Street offers handcrafted coffee, mochas, latte, hot chocolate and an assortment of other choices. Pair it with one of their tasty breakfast selections, including egg strata or a breakfast burrito, or stick around for lunch and have a delicious panini sandwich. This beautiful space offers a great window view of the hustle and bustle of Northfield’s downtown as well as more private nooks if you’re looking for a little quiet.
Goodbye Blue Monday
Just a block down Division Street from The Hideaway is Goodbye Blue Monday Coffeehouse, another one of Northfield’s popular coffee shops. From college students to seniors, this community gathering space offers a wide variety of caffeinated options, including fair trade, organic and shade-grown coffees, as well as some prime seating out front on the sidewalk courtesy of some retired bleacher seats. Cappuccinos, mochas and iced coffees are also available.
James Gang Coffeehouse and Eatery
Another cozy option in Northfield is the James Gang Coffeehouse and Eatery, located on Highway 3 South near Target and Cub Foods. James Gang is a nice alternative to the busyness that can sometimes take over downtown, and they still offer a variety of premium drinks, including six roasts and a diverse espresso drink menu. If you’re on the go, this is a great option as the only coffee shop in the city with a drive-thru.
Coffee goes with a lot. Bagels are at the top of that list. Stop by Tandem Bagels, which offers locally-roasted coffee, and as well as other hot drinks like cappuccino, lattes and mochas, and pair it with one of their fantastic scratch bagels or delicious breakfast sandwiches.
Wait a minute. A brewery? Yes, a brewery. If you need to take a break from a straight-up cup of java, head to Imminent Brewing for a pour of their Well Grounded, a porter combined by an “obscene amount” of Groundwire Coffee Roasters cold press. It’s topped off with a shot of espresso. Enjoy.
Give it a double shot
What’s better than one day of coffee? Two days of coffee. Make it a weekend in Northfield and enjoy multiple coffee offerings (and, you know, some other Northfield-only fun). Spend a night at one of Northfield’s conveniently-located lodging options throughout the city, including downtown.
